Consumer indexing

Power distribution systems have a lot of problems when it comes to tracking the right location or transmission lines. This is when we come into the picture; our consumer indexing process involves indexing of all the consumers in all categories so that the consumers can be segregated feeder-wise and DT-wise. The consumers are then mapped using GIS technology and identified based on their unique electrical address, called Consumer Index Number (CIN). The purpose of GIS Mapping and Indexing of the consumers is to identify and locate all the consumers on geographical map, which are being fed from the Distribution Mains.

The Consumer Index Number (CIN) is provided to all types of consumers and the consumer/ network database helps in correlating each consumer to the corresponding electrical attributes, using GIS tools to query and retrieve information.

Cosyn’s methodology adopted for the exercise

A detailed door-to-door consumer survey is carried out for the creation of consumer database linked to DT (for LT customers) and linked to feeder for HT consumers. Then, all consumers are allotted a unique Consumer Identification Number (CIN) based on the electrical address of consumers. This information of the consumer’s network connectivity is then maintained in the database thereby linking it to the network database for the purpose of defining the consumer’s electrical connectivity.

Database migration

Since many know about the Data Migration process which involves transferring data between storage types, formats, or computer systems, it is usually performed programmatically to achieve an automated migration and freeing up human resources from tedious tasks. It is required when organizations or individuals change computer systems or upgrade to new systems, or when systems merge.

To achieve an effective data migration procedure, what we do here at Cosyn is that the data on the old system is mapped to the new system providing a design for data extraction and data loading. The design relates old data formats to the new system’s formats and requirements. Programmatic data migration may involve many phases but it minimally includes data extraction where data is read from the old system and data loading where data is written to the new system.
