Utilities

Developments in technology have eroded some of the natural monopoly aspects of traditional public utilities. For instance, electricity generation, electricity retailing, telecommunication and postal services have become competitive in some countries and the trend towards liberalization, deregulation and privatization of public utilities is growing, but the network infrastructure used to distribute most utility products and services has remained largely monopolistic.

Technology along with the growing importance for increased revenue realization, are playing the roles of a catalyst for precipitating reforms in the Utilities domain. Cosyn has been operating and innovating in the area of Revenue realization and Technical inclusion in the Utilities field for the last 24 years.

Challenges Mitigation

GIS Applications

As the utility sector is expanding at a great pace, Utilities have realized the importance of GIS mapping and the ease GIS systems provide in effectively tracking and monitoring the Electrical networks. Reliable geospatial information allows for ease of repair and replacement of utility lines, at the same time avoiding excavation damages.

Cosyn offers GIS mapping, GIS application software integration and development in a customized manner to suit the requirements of Utilities. The GIS maps/data are tightly integrated with the DOTUTILITY suite, to provide an in-depth graphical view at every focal point in the electrical network system.

Helps analyze the information for

  • Improve Asset Tracking, Utilization and Maintenance
  • Deployment of transformers
  • Exception handling (in case of failures)
  • Trouble call resolution and complaint handling
  • Enable greater visibility for improved decision making

Consumer indexing

Power distribution systems have a lot of problems when it comes to tracking the right location or transmission lines. This is when we come into the picture; our consumer indexing process involves indexing of all the consumers in all categories so that the consumers can be segregated feeder-wise and DT-wise. The consumers are then mapped using GIS technology and identified based on their unique electrical address, called Consumer Index Number (CIN). The purpose of GIS Mapping and Indexing of the consumers is to identify and locate all the consumers on geographical map, which are being fed from the Distribution Mains.

The Consumer Index Number (CIN) is provided to all types of consumers and the consumer/ network database helps in correlating each consumer to the corresponding electrical attributes, using GIS tools to query and retrieve information.

Cosyn’s methodology adopted for the exercise

A detailed door-to-door consumer survey is carried out for the creation of consumer database linked to DT (for LT customers) and linked to feeder for HT consumers. Then, all consumers are allotted a unique Consumer Identification Number (CIN) based on the electrical address of consumers. This information of the consumer’s network connectivity is then maintained in the database thereby linking it to the network database for the purpose of defining the consumer’s electrical connectivity.

Database migration

Since many know about the Data Migration process which involves transferring data between storage types, formats, or computer systems, it is usually performed programmatically to achieve an automated migration and freeing up human resources from tedious tasks. It is required when organizations or individuals change computer systems or upgrade to new systems, or when systems merge.

To achieve an effective data migration procedure, what we do here at Cosyn is that the data on the old system is mapped to the new system providing a design for data extraction and data loading. The design relates old data formats to the new system’s formats and requirements. Programmatic data migration may involve many phases but it minimally includes data extraction where data is read from the old system and data loading where data is written to the new system.

The Cosyn offering

Cosyn has undertaken over 20 large scale database migration projects which involve legacy data and fragile-sheets data to be migrated to a unified digital formats. It has walked with the times and ensured that the databases can be easily migrated if a new format becomes the norm.

Facility management

Cosyn has handled projects which entail maintenance of the facilities and systems deployed over single or distributed locations. By doing this, we have added value to various organizations with enlarged focus on core competencies thus, increasing the potential of outsourcing.

Our aim is to provide you with a facilities management system that improves your working environment and also provide you with all the services that are necessary for your company to function such that there will be a single point of contact for your facility needs.

Projects in various utilities for revenue and resource management require specialized setups like Data centers, Control Rooms and various customer interaction points for better customer service. Management of these facilities and maintaining SLAs as well as customer interaction levels at an optimum is a skill best practiced at Cosyn. Our integrated facilities management team will increase the output of your utilities portfolio and reduce costs as well as increase desired end-user satisfaction.

The expertise

We have the required expertise to setup, manage and run these internal facilities for the Utility companies or on an outsourced basis at their client locations. We deliver a professional service that is tailored as per your business requirements.

Meter to cash services

The fast evolving market place with increased competition within utilities companies has given birth to customer centric services. The focus is now on implementation of newer and better technologies like metering, needed by utilities so as to retain market competitiveness.

All types of utilities require metering or measurement of consumption, utilization or transmission of the resource. Cosyn has specialized experience in metering various resources like Power, Water and Gas. We have been serving multiple organizations for their billing requirements, debt management and customer services. Effective measurement of the use/transmission holds the key to accurate billing and hence revenue realization. The opening reading, opening balance, and other consumer details are downloaded to the Spot billing machines and metering is done physically at consumer premises as per a specific meter reading route plan within a billing cycle.

The flagship Utility service

Cosyn’s flag ship Utility service -DOTUTILITY supports functionalities pertaining to spot billing at the consumer site, and accepting meter reading data from Spot Billing machines at the centralized locations, and generation of exception lists.
